Frequently asked
What is an eSIM?
An eSIM is a digital SIM built into your phone. Instead of inserting a plastic SIM, you download a plan from OVIO and you’re online when you land, while your regular SIM stays in your phone.
Does my phone support eSIM?
Most phones from the last few years do, including iPhone XS and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and recent Samsung Galaxy S, Z and Note models. The phone must also be carrier-unlocked. Check yours with the compatibility search on our Help page, or in the app under Profile → Device compatibility.
When should I install my eSIM?
Install it before you travel, while you have Wi-Fi. Most plans only start counting days when you first connect to a network at your destination, so installing early doesn’t waste your plan. Each plan page shows its activation policy.
How do I install it?
Open My eSIMs and tap Install. On iPhone you can install with one tap; on Android you scan the QR code or enter the details manually. Turn on the eSIM and data roaming for it once you arrive.
Can I make calls and send texts?
Most plans are data-only, so you can use WhatsApp, FaceTime and other apps for calls. Plans under “Data + Calls” include a phone number with minutes and texts. Your regular number keeps working for calls and texts as usual (your home carrier may charge roaming).
What happens when my data runs out?
Top up the same eSIM from My eSIMs, so there’s nothing new to install. We’ll send a notification when you’re running low.
Can I use one eSIM in several countries?
Yes, with a Regional or Global plan. Country plans only work in that country. Check “Coverage” on the plan page before you buy.
How do I get a refund?
If your eSIM hasn’t been installed, you can ask for a refund within 30 days of purchase. If we couldn’t deliver your eSIM, you’re refunded automatically. Email support@ovioesim.com with your order number.
How do OVIO credit and referrals work?
You earn 5% back in OVIO credit on every purchase, and $3 when a friend buys their first eSIM with your code (they get $3 off). Credit can pay for any eSIM or top-up at checkout.

Does my phone support eSIM?
Most phones from the last few years do. Two quick ways to check:
iPhone
Settings → General → About. If you see "Available SIM" or an EID number, your iPhone supports eSIM.

Your phone must also be carrier-unlocked. Phones bought on a carrier contract may be locked to that carrier. Ask your carrier if you're not sure.
